The name draw filmed in the Rimbi app: countdown, spinning names, then the reveal

The draw, filmed in the app

How it works

Organize a Secret Santa in three steps

No more names in a hat, and no more redraws because someone picked themselves.

  1. The “Christmas at Grandma’s” event in Rimbi: countdown to the draw and participants

    Create the event

Pick the occasion, the draw date and the budget. The countdown starts.

  2. Inviting someone without the app: their name and number, and they get a link by text or email

    Invite your group

A link on WhatsApp, by text or email. Grandpa can join without the app.

  3. The draw result in Rimbi: you’re buying for Inès

    Draw names

On the big day, everyone secretly finds out who they’re buying for, then sees that person’s profile and wishes.

Features

Everything for a great Secret Santa

The draw is just the beginning. Every participant has a profile: what they love, the group’s ideas, the chat… Everything you need to get it right, without spoiling the surprise.

Her tastes

What Inès loves, so you get it right

Tastes, sizes, favorite colors, and what she really doesn’t want: her gift profile steers whoever draws her name. No more random gifts.

Group ideas

The best ideas rise to the top

Everyone suggests ideas for Inès and the others vote anonymously. The favorite goes first, and you can see at a glance what’s already taken.

Chat

Talk it over, behind the scenes

“She wants to get back into pottery”, “shall we chip in?”: every profile has its own chat. The whole group gets organized, and the surprise stays intact.

Secret messages

Ask her a question without giving yourself away

Tea or coffee? Shoe size? Message the person you’re buying for: she answers without knowing who you are. And she can write to her Secret Santa too.

Tap “I’ll get it”: the others see it’s taken, Inès doesn’t. No more duplicates, and the surprise stays intact.

A group gift: target amount, pledges and payment method€€245 raised so far

Group gift

Group gifts, without spreadsheets or awkward reminders

A great idea, a target amount: everyone pledges their share, and Rimbi tracks it until it’s ordered. The money goes through the payment method of your choice.

And also

Rules that prevent drama

Couples don’t draw each other, nobody gets the same person year after year, and Rimbi checks the draw is possible before running it.

The draw rules: budget, number of people to buy for, no repeats, checked draw

The organizer sees it’s all fine, never who gives to whom

Everyone has someone to buy for, who has seen their draw, who hasn’t joined yet: one glance is enough. And a reminder goes out in one tap.

Chat and polls

Where’s Christmas Eve dinner? Who brings dessert? One poll and it’s settled.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does Secret Santa work with Rimbi?

Create an event, pick the draw date and the budget, then invite people by link, code, text or email. Add exclusions if needed, couples for example. At the scheduled time, Rimbi draws names: everyone sees, on their own phone, only the name of the person they’re buying for.

Read the guide: Draw names online

Is Rimbi free?

Yes, for one group of up to 20 people, kids included, with every feature. For more groups or bigger groups, the organizer can choose the Family plan (€9.99 a year), the Tribe plan (€24.99 a year) or a pass for a single event (€4.99). Guests never pay, and fixing the participant list is always free.

Do my guests need the app or an account?

No. The organizer can send each guest a personal link by text or email, valid for 7 days. On their phone, with nothing to install, guests see who they’re buying for, check that person’s wish list and reserve a gift. People with the app also get the draw animation, reminders and secret messages.

Can we draw names without email, by text or on WhatsApp?

Yes. Rimbi sends a guest’s personal link by text or email, whichever you prefer. To invite a whole group, the organizer can also share a link or a code anywhere: WhatsApp, Messenger, texts… The draw itself happens in Rimbi, never in the chat, so nobody sees anyone else’s result.

Read the guide: Draw names online

How do I stop couples from drawing each other?

Use exclusions: list the people who shouldn’t draw each other, like a couple or two siblings. You can also rule out two-way draws, and by default Rimbi avoids repeating any pairing from the last three years. Before the draw, the app checks that it’s still possible with all those rules.

Read the guide: Odd numbers, couples, kids

What if someone draws their own name?

They can’t: nobody can land on their own name, and a child never draws their own parents. No more starting over like with paper slips.

Can the organizer take part without knowing the results?

Yes. In secret mode, the default, nobody sees anyone else’s draw, not even the organizer, who plays like everyone else. The organizer can also run the event without taking part, and plan a reveal for the big day so everyone finds out who their Secret Santa was.

Read the guide: Organize a Secret Santa

How many people do you need? Does an odd number work?

An odd number is fine: the draw doesn’t make pairs, everyone gives to one person and receives from another. You need at least three people if two-way draws are ruled out. Each person can even buy for one, two or three people.

Read the guide: Odd numbers, couples, kids

Can we do Secret Santa long distance?

Yes. Everyone sees their draw on their own phone, wherever they are. With the long-distance exchange, the recipient adds a mailing address that only their Secret Santa can see, and it’s erased once the gift arrives.

Read the guide: Long-distance Secret Santa

How much should we spend on Secret Santa?

Most groups pick something between $10 and $30 (or the same in euros or pounds): enough for a nice gift without making anyone uncomfortable. Coworkers often keep it to $10–$15, while families may go up to $30–$50. In Rimbi, the organizer sets a minimum and maximum budget that everyone can see.

Read the guide: Secret Santa rules

Can we add someone or redo the draw afterwards?

Yes. The organizer can redo the draw. If someone joins or drops out after the draw, Rimbi makes a discreet adjustment: only one person’s draw changes, and the organizer doesn’t know whose. Fixing the participant list is always free.

Can kids take part?

Yes, even without a phone. A parent creates and manages their child’s profile, and discovers the draw with them through a special animation. Who’s buying for the child stays secret, even from the parents, and a child never draws their own parents.

Read the guide: Odd numbers, couples, kids

How do I know what to buy without spoiling the surprise?

Everyone can fill in a wish list and a gift profile: tastes, sizes, things they’d rather not get. When you reserve a gift, the recipient never knows, but others can see it’s taken: no more duplicates. Still unsure? Ask them through a secret message without revealing who you are.

How do I organize a group gift?

Create a group gift in the event: the idea, the target amount and the order date. Everyone enters their share and Rimbi tracks the total, with a reminder before the order date. The money goes through whatever you prefer (bank transfer, online money pot, cash): Rimbi never touches it.

What’s the difference between Secret Santa, Kris Kringle and White Elephant?

Secret Santa and Kris Kringle are the same game: you secretly draw the name of the person you’ll buy a gift for. White Elephant is different: everyone brings a gift and people take turns picking or “stealing” them, with no names drawn. Rimbi is made for Secret Santa, at Christmas, for birthdays and any celebration.
